Political Cartoons: Drawing from imagination
Both of these drawings were done strictly from my imagination, on an ipad with ArtStudio, a nice drawing and painting application. Drawing from imagination is sculptural. It feels much like making a sculpture--try something, and then something else, take away, and add on, until the drawing feels 'right'. Both of these drawings ran in our local paper, the Mountain View Voice. It turns out that local papers need local content, so sending in one or two drawings to the editor works really well, if your drawings reflect on stories central to the paper. To generate ideas for cartoons, I read the paper, and write a response to something I see in it-- so the cartoon appears on the editorial page with other responses the the previous week's reporting.
