Tell your own story with conceptual drawing

Only recently have i started to imagine and create my own drawing narrative--making illustrations up from different sources and conveying a meaning or message with them.  I did not realize the appeal of using drawing as a medium for a message, rather than having the subject matter be the message.  Here are some sketches from my books and cartoons published in the local paper to illustrate what I mean:
