These works take a landscape theme and push it farther with inclusion of gold leaf and cloud elements, they the notion of whimsy and exploration in painting. When I first added the gold leaf, I thought it would look trite or gimmicky— I decided that it looks interesting and awesome instead and did several more. These paintings are informed both by the abstract expressionist movement and the art deco elements of California Impressionism.
