Course information (syllabus, materials ideas)...
Join Ann McMillan for an exploration in artmaking. In this class, a new idea or technique will be introduced each week. The main focus will be collage and mixed media techniques but other media are welcome. Experimentation and questions strongly encouraged! Techniques include painted paper collage, abstraction and color theory ideas explored with collage, mixing collage with pen and ink, watercolor, photo transfer, gel prints, sun print elements, acrylic, and gouache. To encourage innovation, rather than working from a set supply list, students can bring in what they already own, or obtain what they love to work with, and Ann will demonstrate and teach how to use the students medium of choice. Questions explored in this class might be: How do I make art that expresses my own vision? Can I create a series of works that show a message or theme to my artwork? Where does abstraction come from? If students are interested, we can finish the quarter by making figurative artworks by hiring a model.
