Please join me for a play day of experimenting with encaustic collage and painting. Encaustic painting is a fascinating medium using hot melted beeswax mixed with pigments; it has a lovely satiny finish and vibrant colors. We will focus on making small paintings with inlaid collage elements. The class will cover proper handling of hot wax materials, and work with using a heat gun, and brushes. A variety of collage materials can be added to the wax including pressed leaves and flowers, disassembled books, maps and photographs, and whatever students want to bring in. Check my blog entry at annmcmillanstudio.com for an overview of my hot wax techniques and samples of work. Most supplies included for a $30 materials fee payable to the instructor, if students want to try the media before committing to their own kit.
