Gold Inlay Paintings
These works take a landscape theme and push it farther with the inclusion of gold leaf and cloud elements. Both whimsy and exploration go into these paintings. The colors are drawn from my local landscape palettes-- the blue and gold from the dry hills and cloudy skies of California Winter and the sweet greens from the redwood forest. When I first added the gold leaf, I thought it would look trite or gimmicky—I decided that it looks interesting instead. These paintings are influenced by both abstract expressionism and the Arts & Crafts movement in California Impressionism.
